Our Farm
We are 37 Roots Farm! Our name comes from a few different things about our farm which makes it unique for us. Alex’s great-grandparents, Kiff and Magdalene, bought this piece of property, back in the mid 1930’s. They completed the building of their home, which we now live in, in 1937. And, since Alex’s family is all close and has worked on this farm since then and basically everyone in his family, including cousins, lives close by or on some of the original property of his great-grandparents he has strong family ROOTS here. 37 ROOTS FARM!
Alex’s great-grandfather, Kiff Greer, was a carpenter by trade and also raised cattle and was a crop farmer. They also raised pigs on forested land through out the year to put food on the table. His great-grandmother was raised on a piece of property not far from here where her parents also farmed.
Growing up Alex was always around his great-grandmother, grandfather, father, and cousins helping them out with the cattle when they would rotate them from pasture to pasture. He was also there a lot of the time when they would load cows up to be taken to the livestock auctions. Sometime around late 1990’s early 2000’s his grandfather began farming and raising sheep and after the passing of his great-grandmother in 2008 the family sold all of the cattle, and his grandfather got more involved in raising sheep. He would help his grandfather at times when they would catch sheep to take to livestock auction or when someone would come to the farm to buy sheep from him. There was always something going on!
2017 was a tough year. In October Alex lost his father to a heart attack and 10 short weeks later his grandfather passed away as well, leaving the farm to Alex. Since we have taken over the farm we have been trying to think of new ways to improve the quality of the land and preserve the traditions that has been with this family for many years of raising livestock and providing food for our family. We want to take this one step further and want to provide wholesome quality and naturally raised meat products for those within our community. We fill as if it is our duty to take care of this land that we have been blessed with.
Our animals deserve the best quality of life and we strive to give them just that!
